Research Interests:

History of tonal theory and analysis, identity formation and political representation in Latin-America and Latin music in the U.S., and jazz performance practice.

Fellowships/Honors:

ACLS Fellowship 2009, Whiting Fellow in the Humanities at Yale, recipient of the David and Janet Brooks Distinguished Teaching Award (Duke) and the Society for American Music 2005 Irving Lowens Article Award for Best Article ('Bauza-Gillespie-Latin Jazz: Difference, Modernity, and the Black Caribbean,' The South Atlantic Quarterly, 2004). Earned 5 Grammy nominations with Ray Barretto.
